It is summer so that means making up all of my doctor's appointments that I simply could not find time to schedule during the year. I only decided to make all of the appointments because my arm started to hurt a few months ago and it has not stopped. That turned out to be a a pinched nerve.

Dentist: All clear
Blood Work: Waiting
Gynecologist: Normal except... The doctor found a lump and sent me for a mammogram and an immediate sonogram if necessary. It was necessary. The technician didn't like what she saw so sent me for the sonogram in the next room. That technician didn't like what she saw so wanted the doctor to look at it. The doctor looked at it and said it was fibrous tissue and there were no calcifications. Whew.

I have passed my local fruit stand on trash day a few times and noticed some small wooden slat crates that used to hold fruit and herbs on the pile. I stopped by last week to see if I could have them and they said it wasn't a problem. They also agreed to hold four or five more for me this week.
I was in need of a problem solving solution as my potted containers were getting dry, the plants were crowded and needed to be thinned and I also tend to knock them off the porch if the door swings open too quickly.
I stopped at the garden center today and picked up a few small plants to fill in some area. I also used weed blocker to line the crates so the soil would hold. I just used a basic potting soil then added some perlite and plant food.
After I finish making a small brace for them, I won't have to worry about the bins getting knocked over when the door flies open. Cleaner and more symmetrical now. Just my style.

Yesterday, I was trying to schedule some time to watch a world cup game with Renzo as he is incredibly excited about the games. He offered a game on June 22nd and in the back of my head I thought, " Do I have something that day?" I thought about it on and off yesterday and today and it finally hit me. 06/22 is my anniversary with Arnon. I suppose from now on I will need to consider 07/31 our anniversary because that is the day we divorced.

Odd though, that the number ran through my head and I knew it was something... I just couldn't remember what. I suppose I am moving on.
Hey Miss
Well, yesterday was National Astronomy Day and I had my supper and stargazing party. I ended up with two quiche and I used Martha Stewart's recipe for the spinach and gruyere. I also found a recipe for a bacon and zucchini that used gruyere so I didn't need to purchase two cheese.
I learned a few valuable lessons.
1) Rotate quiche so one doesn't brown (didn't burn) too heavily in the back of the oven.
2) Rolling out quiche crust is hard. (I just used my fingers to push it in place.)
3) I have amazing friends.

Food Menu:
2 quiche: spinach and gruyere as well as turkey bacon, zucchini, and gruyere
1 large spring mix salad with a small amount of feta, walnuts, raspberries and blueberries with a raspberry walnut vinaigrette
fruit skewers with watermelon cut out into stars. (I called them shooting stars and comets)

Drink Menu:
3 white wines
1 rose wine
unsweetened iced tea
water with lemon balm from my garden

Well, today was the day. My wonderful boyfriend came to the store with me to pick up all of my supplies and load them in the car for me. I purchased: 1 roll of weed netting, 2 bags of Perlite, 2 (2 ft) bags of Miracle Grow potting soil, 2 (1ft) bags of peat moss, and 2 bags of Black Cow fertilizer/compost. (I ended up returning 1 bag of perlite and the second bag of Black Cow.)

I know that this mixture is not exactly "Mel's Mix" for my square foot garden but I chose based on what works best in the Florida heat. The entire project took me about two hours and a good portion of that was just mixing the soil ingredients.

This square foot garden is replacing my 5 gallon bucket container garden from the past two years. I chose an area with less sun as the sun was scorching my plants last year. I will have an hour and a half of direct overhead Florida sun, about an hour of indirect slightly angled sun, and late afternoon sun as well. With the heat in Florida and scorching of the plants I am hoping for more robust and less long spindly tomato plants.

The actual garden back to front
row four: Tomatoes from seed (Juliet Hybrid and Little Golden Sun)
row three: Totem Tomato from seed, green pepper, jalapeño pepper, red pepper
row two: Basil, Eggplant from seed, Lemon balm
row one: Yellow Squash
Interspersed: Sweet Texas Onion

The photos show today's progress.

I am sick again, this time a small cold turned into a sinus infection and an ear infection. Renzo was incredible. He had me stay over he brought me water, medicine, dove me to pick up my rx, and anything else that he thought would make me feel better.

He was amazing. I am a very lucky girl.

It has been just over a month and I am still dating Renzo.

He is still the consummate gentleman. Flowers, doors, etc. Dinners out, meeting for breakfast, coming by or making plans just to say hello after work. It feels so nice to be with someone that is so interested in making me happy.

I love his sense of humor. He makes me smile and He loves me.

We went out for dinner Friday. To the fair on Saturday. To a movie on Tuesday. To dinner again on Friday. Breakfast Saturday and On a walk on Sunday.

A total gentlemen and very sincere. He gave me my first roses ever, and then the next time he saw me brought me Girl Scout Cookies because he remembered that I mentioned I used to be one.
